Titans 2nd Birthday Tournament
On Saturday 8th December, we celebrated the club’s 3rd birthday by hosting our 2nd birthday tournament. As the tournament’s regular home of Old Deer Park was waterlogged, we had to move the event to Brockley Park. However we were glad to see that our fellow London clubs (Falcons, Romans and Leftfooters) were undeterred by the inclement weather.
The format of the tournament (everyone playing everyone in 20 minute matches of one half) promotes open and attacking football and no one demonstrated this better than the overall winners – London Falcons – winning all their matches, conceding no goals and scoring 12.
The tournament was attended by the Mayor of Richmond (Marc Cranfield-Adams) who also presented the trophy and medals at the post match reception in the Richmond Arms. The mayor also presented the pub’s landlord (Freddie) with a framed shirt and memento of the club’s success at the Gay World Cup in Argentina as a sign of the club’s appreciation for his support since their formation.
Given the success of this year’s tournament and the popularity of its’ unique format, it is hoped that next year invitations can be extended to gay teams beyond the capital.
