LUL team update – matches against Romans and Phoenix / GFSN team friendly v Falcons

After weeks of inactivity the Titans London Unity League team were back in action with matches on consecutive Sundays. Last Sunday Titans were at home to London Romans and having drawn with them earlier in the season the lads went into the match in confident mood.  However Titans conceded a goal within minutes of the start and this set the precedent for the remainder of the match.  Romans scored 3 more times in the first half to go into the break 4-0 up, unfortunately all 4 goals were gifts by the Titans defence.  It was always going to be a huge mountain to climb being 4-0 down but the Titans didn’t help themselves by conceding a fifth straight from the restart.  Romans scored three further goals to match their first half tally and win the match 8-0.

Yesterday Titans were away to Phoenix who beat us 3-0 at Old Deer Park earlier in the season.  After last weeks mauling at the hands of the Romans everyone was hoping for a better result, unfortunately it wasn’t to be.  Titans started brightly enough but two goals within a minute put the Titans on the back foot.  Further goals put Phoenix firmly in control and a repeat of the previous weeks mauling was on the cards.  But this Titans side has lots of spirit and goals from Peter Knight and Talal gave the half time scoreline some sort of respectability at 6-2.  We felt that if Titans could get a third then it would make a match of it but unfortunately Phoenix scored the first goal of the second half to extend their lead.  Titans were awarded a penalty which Miller despatched confidently and Peter Knight scored again to give us hope but further Phoenix goals gave them a 10-4 victory.

Despite two heavy defeats in a week the spirit amongst the players is excellent, no one dropped their head and everyone kept battling till the end.  The Titan spirit is evident and although the result is important it’s the fact everyone takes part that makes playing for Titans such an enjoyable experience.

Whilst the LUL team were playing in Regents Park, the GFSN team had a friendly with their old neighbours London Falcons. The inclement weather has meant that the GFSN squad have only played one competitive match in the last 3 months so this was an opportunity for them to get some match practice before what is going to be a congested run in to the end of the season.

Although it was a “friendly”, the local derby was fiercely competitive. Falcons opened the scoring with a goal from former Titans player Luke Tuffs. Not long after Titans were awarded two penalties which were confidently netted by Matt Baker. These penalties came either side of a deft finish by captain Chris Felton. Falcons rallied and believed that they could come from behind as they did when the two teams met earlier in the season but the improving GFSN squad held firm and Titans were eventual 3-2 winners. The win bodes well for the remainder of what is already the Titans best GFSN season yet.
