The second home game, the first ever Titans derby in the LUL League which was scheduled for Sunday 30th August, is now to be rescheduled due to non availability of players over the Bank Holiday. The revised date is provisionally Sunday 25th October.
Pre season friendlies
With the start of the GFSN season only 1 week away and the LUL season only 2 weeks away, London Titans were involved yesterday (Sunday 16th August) in 2 pre season friendlies. The GFSN squad lost 5-3 to ‘Cottonmill’, a St. Albans based team which one of our members also plays for. An amalgamated LUL team lost 2-1 to a Falcons LUL team. Despite the losses there were many positives to be drawn from the games with the matches providing an opportunity for many of our new members to play in their first competitive games for the club.
The GFSN season begins this Sunday with a home fixture against one of the league’s new members – Newcastle. Final details of the match will be posted on here later this week. The LUL season begins on Sunday 30th August with a Titans Derby.
Titans in the Media
This month the London Titans FC features in both Attitude and Gay Times magazines. The Gay Times football special takes a look at the coming season and features a photo shoot of players from Stonewall and Titans (Alfie and Coady).
In an article in this month’s (August 2009) Attitude magazine, the acclaimed author Michael Arditti writes about the relevance of Pride in 2009. He observes at p67 that “it is easy for a metropolitan gay man working in the arts to forget how much Pride can mean to a young gay man living in an isolated community who feels unable to come out to his family or, indeed, to an older lesbian who may have been cut off from her family.
Moreover, through their worldwide dissemination on the web, images of Adventure Dykes or the London Titans Football Club, of Rugby Girls or the London Gay Men’s Chorus, not to mention the UK Lesbian and Gay Immigration Group, may give heart to persecuted people across the globe.”
Season 09/10
The new season is nearly upon us and for the first time the Titans will be fielding three teams, one in the GFSN League and two in the London Unity League (LUL). For fixture dates please check our Fixtures & Events page.
Following a successful third Birthday Tournament last year, our Birthday Tournament will be held on Saturday 17th October this year.
Please note that the first two home fixtures of the season will not be held at our home ground, Old Deer Park, as the football season will not have started here until mid to late September, in common with most other football venues. Please check nearer the time for the venue for these matches.
