Titans Mexico Diary – Day 4
Report by London Titans FC
Day 4 – Quarter-Final vs Uruguay
Rested, rejuvenated and relishing another battle on the pitch Los Titanos arrived at the pitches on Day 4 for the much anticipated quarter final clash with Uruguay. Deprived of Jardine we were once again able to call upon the timeless qualities of a certain Rueggy Rueggalicious.
Titans are well known for many positive qualities and attributes and this game displayed a plethora of these. Tenacity, energy, enthusiasm, teamwork and togetherness to name but a few.
The first half passed in a blur of humidity and endless running with Los Titanos edging the best of the chances with one cleared off the line from an Amine corner. Veteran attacker and team manager Ed Connell brought in the team at half time to gee up the troops, confirming the opinion that this was an eminently winnable game.
Stoic defending again underpinned this performance with a back line of Luka, Tina, Muzza, Salandra and Rolfy rebuffing any attack the Uruguayans could muster. The teams were evenly matched and each enjoyed periods of advantage. A through ball by Ed towards the end saw Ollie and the opposition keeper bearing down on one another. Poking the ball beyond the keeper it went across the face of goal and, despite Coady’s best efforts, could not be turned in.
A furious finish saw more half chances and a cynical foot to Luka’s hand saw another injury to add to his medical records but he bravely continued to the penalty shoot out. Cheered on by all other teams on the sidelines the nerve wrecking climax began:
Titans Luka – scored
Uruguay 1 – scored
Titans Beal – scored
Uruguay 2 – scored
Titans Miller – missed
Uruguay 3 – scored
Titans Ollie – scored
Uruguay 4 – scored
Titans Muzza – scored
Uruguay 5 – missed
Sudden Death
Titans Amine – missed
Uruguay 6 – scored
With heads held high Los Titanos accepted their fate. A valiant effort by all and we will play for 5th place in our final match tomorrow when once again Tina will attempt to off put the opposition with the copious amounts of hairspray in her hair.
